Ronnie Smith grew up south of Leeds, Alabama between Lake Purdy and Double Oak Mountain. The community he grew up in was mostly relatives and close friends that made hunting and fishing “a way of life”. The region of small farms, hardwood ridges and bottoms allowed Ronnie the perfect place to practice outdoor skills at an early age. Neighbors recall Ronnie at age nine calling hoot owls at night, winning a laugh from his mom and a pat on the back from his dad. He was able to harvest game and fish on a consistent basis at such an early age that all who knew him said he was “a natural”. With encouragement from his family and confidence from early success, Ronnie has evolved into one of the country’s true premier outdoorsmen.
One of his greatest thrills is to take children on their first hunts. He spends a large percentage of his hunting and fishing time teaching young first-time sportsmen how to be safe and successful. He has a special place in his heart for children with special needs and loves seeing the face of a young person on his first hunt or casting for the first time. Ronnie also makes time to spend with just about anyone that asks for his help or opinion with matters he feels qualified to help with. He believes you must give back or you won’t have anything to give.
Will Primos claims that Ronnie is “full of life” and “always gives thanks for his time in the woods and the animals that he is fortunate enough to harvest.”
Ronnie is a devoted Christian family-man that always credits God for his successes in the woods, on the waters and throughout life. Ronnie now resides in Moody, Alabama with his wife Rhonda and his two children, Ron and Kayla.
